Newport Beach Restaurant Week Review continued! So our second destination was a bit more casual than our first steakhouse trip, but still a three course gourmet meal nontheless! It's called The Counter Custom Built Burger and my high school BFF's had been raving about this joint for ages, stating that it was the best burger joint around- simply because of the customization and exotic ingrediants selection. Read my extensive Yelp Review for the details.
So based on his enthusiastic recommendation, my husband and I decided to go check it out. Unlike most of the other participating restaurant in Newport Beach's Restaurant Week, this restaurant did not take reservations and was extremely casual. There were many families dining on that Friday night and it has somewhat of a Johnny Rockets/Ruby's feel to it so definitely a spot fit for the entire family.
While traditionally patrons customize every aspect of their meal, The Counter created three pre-set burger choices with all the fixings, appetizers for fellow diners to enjoy. We were also given the option to select a really healthy appetizer, a Kale salad with crumbled feta cheese, or a fatty's dream burger accompaniment, parmesan cheese french fries. But onward to the main attraction!
Here's my burger, an organic bison patty topped with black-eyed peas, corn, soft-ripened brie, on ciabetta bread with a side of dijon balsamic dressing. Mmm...
And my husband's Red Angus Burger (the traditional burger with a twist) topped with gruyere cheese, marinated artichoke hearts, carrots and roma tomatoes. Definitely a solid burger.
And finally dessert, my favorite part of any meal! Two soft chocolate chip cookies with vanilla bean ice cream and a salted carmel tipping sauce. Delicious and if anyone knows me will know that chocolate chip cookies are the way to my heart.
Overall this was a very pleasant low key experience with bold flavors. So if you're looking for a burger joint that's one notch above traditional diner food then you should pay them a visit.
